About two years ago, I watched the HBO classic; Sex and the City. As a result – and I do feel many a Sex and the City fan would relate – I fantasised over the lifestyle of Carrie Bradshaw. The New York apartment, the newspaper column, the romance, the friends, the clothes and the obscenely expensive shoes.
This was my ideal but totally unrealistic picture of the perfect life, and I longed to simply plonk myself right in her fabulous shoes and strut around endlessly in that utopia.
My reality, however, was the HSC.
The burden of my final school year, combined with the confinement I felt from Covid 19 had turned my strutting into struggling and my ambition for myself was lost. But through this I had Carrie and that fictional escape, and though it is unrealistic, there was comfort in the idea that life outside of school could be foreign, thrilling, and perhaps worth documenting.
So, I tackled those last exams and I made it to the other side, and I began my first year of total freedom.
My 2022 domestic escapades took me to K’gari (Fraser Island) and Uluru where I spent a total of seven months working remotely.
Being in a completely new environment and not knowing a single soul, it was priceless to discover how truly wonderful and significant people can be. Talking and learning from other people unexpectedly taught me so much about myself and it all has brought me to this point, making these decisions. Cliche, maybe, but I think it is bloody sensational. Thank you to all of the contributors.
I have decided 2023 is the year for my foreign, thrilling adventure abroad. And so I guess this would be about the time where the opening credits would begin to roll and the familiar tune of my very own TV show would begin. Will it be a comedy? Drama? Romance or…horror? Who’s to say?
All I know is that going overseas for me is like an itch that must be scratched and 2023 has brought with it a sense of sureness and certainty that now is the time.
And thus begins the journey of “Go with Chloe”.
Go With Chloe is a way for both you and I to genuinely experience life travelling. It gives me somewhere to document the places I go, the food I eat and the things I do, and somewhere for you to gain insights by being with me as I go. If I love travelling as much as I love the thought of travelling, my future is potentially as a nomad, and maybe yours is too. But whether or not you are inspired by these words, I am simply happy to have you as part of this journey. I can’t wait to see where we go next.
