It is one week until Balu Brigada releases their new song weeks after a teaser they posted on Instagram went viral.
Safe to say, the anticipation is real.
The success of this new project even before its release is testament to the hard work and talent of the duo, Henry and Pierre Beasly, who write and produce all their own music.
It was their unique and addictive sound that captured the attention of American music label, Atlantic Records, which signed the band in 2022. They have since moved to New York, making a name for themselves in the industry with what Rolling Stone Aus coined “genre-hopping”.
According to the brothers, their ability to mix elements of alt rock, hip hop and pop music into outrageously catchy songs all starts with the simple task to “catch a vibe.”
“That’s all you’re really trying to do.” Said Pierre, the younger of the two brothers. “We’ll find a tempo that we are feeling on the day, mess around with some drums to find a groove and play around on some guitars.”
The two share the roles of writing, playing, and producing and have found the collaboration to be one their greatest strengths in the creative process. Though it is a process, they revealed, that does not always happen easily or quickly.
The self-proclaimed perfectionists have been working on the single for their upcoming project since October last year.
“I’d say there have been about two-hundred man hours for that three minutes and three seconds,” Henry said.
The two jokingly referred to their music studio as “the dungeon” as they explained; “When you know something has the potential to be this big, exciting production it makes it a bit harder. Which is what ‘So Cold’ is.”
Six weeks ago, the band posted the first teaser for their new song, “So Cold”, on their Instagram page.
The thirty second video of Pierre playing the base below the caption “Did I just create the hottest baseline of 2026?” has been viewed 3.9 million times. It became a trending Instagram sound that was used by the likes of the Manchester United Football Club which has a following of more than 60 million people.
This Friday, when the full song is released, we will be able to deduce once and for all if the baseline is as hot as its Instagram attention implies.
“We’re excited. It’s starting to feel real now.” Henry said of sharing their new project.
“We’ve spent the last three months tweaking random things and then being like ‘did I accomplish anything in the last fourteen hours?’”
The duo are grateful for their recent social media success, and to be finally able to share the product of their hard work. But at the end of the day, they are artists, and the art is what makes it all worth it.
Pierre said he compares the song-writing process to “the greatest feeling in the world”, a feeling that they are somehow able to translate into their groovy productions. Perhaps passion is truly the secret to success.
To hear the viral baseline for yourself, Balu Brigada’s new single “So Cold” will be out on all streaming platforms on June 7th.
